Orally Disintegrating Tablets (ODT)
The Orally Disintegrating Tablet (ODT) market is experiencing rapid growth, driven by increasing demand for patient-friendly dosage forms. ODTs must disintegrate rapidly, ideally within seconds, to facilitate easy administration, particularly for pediatric, geriatric, and dysphagic patients.

Traditional ODT manufacturing technologies often face limitations, including lengthy processing times, restricted drug loading capacities, low API concentration limits, and challenges related to taste masking.
To overcome these constraints, Dec collaborates with the Swiss company Pharmapan in the development and implementation of the innovative Lyopan® technology. Download product sheet
Lyopan® enables significantly higher drug loading, with tablet capacities of up to 750 mg, compared with the typical industry limit of approximately 250 mg. In addition, the technology substantially reduces manufacturing time and costs through an accelerated drying process.
The process involves:
-
Precise dosing of the API directly into blisters using Dec's µPTS (micro Powder Transfer System).
-
Addition of a liquid binder to create the formulation.
-
Freeze-drying of the product to obtain highly porous, fast-disintegrating tablets.
Dec provides a complete, end-to-end powder handling solution for ODT manufacturing, from raw API handling and contained powder transfer to accurate blister filling and freeze-drying integration. For highly potent compounds, fully contained and isolated systems can be implemented to ensure maximum operator protection, product quality, and regulatory compliance.
